Making the 'Baking' Tray

Making the Baking Tray:

After finding a Polystyrene box I cut it to shape and then me and Conor tried vacuum forming it but sadly the polystyrene melted and lost its shape. So I cut out the pieces in cardboard and glued together a tray this way, we then tried vacuum forming that but this didn't work either as the heat made it loose its shape. We decided that to make it as good as the puppet itself, our best bet would be too buy one and the cut a hole and spray it. I found a garden tray at the appropriate size on Amazon and ordered it for next day so that on Thursday I could cut out the mouth hole, prime and spray it silver ready for securing the puppet too.

The cardboard tray set on the vacuum former, ready to lower down.

Securing the plastic sheet into the vacuum former, it was important to ensure it was perfectly lined up as it meant that the sheet wouldn't be able to slip out as this could comprise the mould.

This photograph shows the cardboard after it had been vacuum formed, as you can seen from this the tray had been compromised due to the heat and the strength of the suction, it caused the sides to have a dip which isn't the look we needed. Because we had tried two different cheaper options (polystyrene and cardboard) and both couldn't hold the shape, I decided that it would look better and be cheaper if we just bought a tray and altered it, rather than making it from scratch.
