Moodboard's for The Wiz characters

The Tin man:
For the tin man we had talked about him being more rusty than you normally see him in some of the other versions of the wizard of oz. I especially liked the kind of rust which is oxidized, as it goes this really cool turquoise blue which contrasts against the rusty orange/brown. For the costume itself, I was considering it being either a metallic looking cape or leather jacket. This could then have a rusty texture to it which would gradually fade down and look like rain has caused it. To give him more character we thought he could wear a metallic baseball cap, backwards and maybe some shiny avatar sunglasses. I wanted to combine the warm reds and oranges with the cool tones, using a vibrant turquoise and greys. This will make him visually, a bit more interesting, when normally he is seen as all grey.

The Wiz:
The Wiz needed to look more important, so as a group we thought that he could maybe have a top hat and a coat with a tail. As all the characters have a bit of something extra to them which enhances there characteristics and makes there costume visually more humanised and eye catching. The jacket could have geometric shapes layered on it and gold studs to build up different tones of green and texture.  I also really like the idea of 'THE WIZ' or 'WIZ' being written across the back of his jacket. His shoes could either be gold or be black and have a gold W on them, similar to a buckle. As a character I imagine him to be quite cocky and confident with himself so this would just help to show that.

The Lion:
For the lion we wanted him to be a modern twist on all the ones that have been created before. We thought it would be cool for him to have dreadlocks, combing oranges, reds and browns and beaded on certain strands of hair, maybe some wrapped with similar colour string. We thought instead of him wearing a fur onesie or a full body costume, he could just have elements of fur. This would be made up of a fur coat and fur boots or leg warmers. We wanted him to have some kind of gold jewellery, maybe a large medallion featuring either a lion of a crown. Which would represent who he is. The inspiration for this look was the stereotypical 'pimp'. and For the hair I looked at Johnny Deep's character in the Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow. I would also consider having some kind of headband that he has which could have some kind of lion theme printed on it, for extra finer detailing. The colour palette is very warm and has been taken from the image of the lion itself. I personally think it would be quite important to stick to this.

The Scarecrow:
The scarecrow was more difficult as everyone has this very clear idea of what a scarecrow should look like in there head, we wanted to keep to this but add more of a modern twist to it. We decided to look at Punk's for inspiration and take some of there crazes and use them as inspiration. We thought he could have a Mohawk made from straw. For his costume we would keep it relatively stereotypical with dungarees and a striped t-shirt or jumper. We wanted to maybe add patches onto the dungaree's, these could have writing or pictures on. We also wanted to have bits of straw coming out of this. And maybe some spikey cuffs for the wrists and ankles. We also wanted to have an element of gold in his costume, which appears to be a running theme through out all of the costumes. I really like the idea of having a little crow hiding somewhere in his costume, this could be made from felt or something like that, but would just add a cute element to him.
