Wednesday 3rd May- Working with a Community Centre

Kerry got me a position with her to teach at a Community Centre in Hoo. This gave us the opportunities to teach young people to do art. Each week we would be able to present them with a new task to complete and at the end of it they would have something, that they had made and could take home. For our first week we did Tie Dying with the children. Before they came we set up a station, including 4 sets of dyes, each a different colour, piles of plain white T-shirts, gloves and plastic boxes. The children came to us in groups of 4, we then talked them through what to do and overlooked them doing it. They picked out a top each and then we got it wet, this was then laid out, using a fork we span it round into a spiral, elastic bands were then added to create different sections. They could then squirt dye into each section using a bottle. Once washed it would leave the spiral pattern. It was really rewarding seeing how much fun they had and a lot of them said that they would be defiantly coming back the following week. Me and Kerry would be arranging different activities for them to do in the following weeks to come.
